055: The Spiritual Combat - Ch. 44
Episode #55. Prayer, of which we've discussed before. Occasionally. Listen to our previous podcasts on prayer. Confidence in God, and distrust of self. The Vital Necessity of prayer. Presumption... that's not good. Instead, try "fear of the Lord" - you know? Don't mistake the "holiness" of your surroundings for your own personal holiness. Yank out your bookmarks and throw them away! The problem is not giving it your best effort and making a mistake - but in not putting forth an effort. Don't be all legalistic about prayer. Concretize. The Catechism and prayer. Read it. The virtue lies primarily in the will. His will be done. Mmmm.. latin... No smooth roads in prayer. Be plucky. Raising kids right. Stick. Belly. Eeek. Thanks be to God for prayers answered. Diggin' holes. Three parables. We'd rather do it poorly than not do it at all.

Wow! Another podcast...already! Great show. I was particularly moved and convicted by Mike's friend who is willing to sacrifice (lots) of sleep to make prayer undeniably front and center in his life. What a challenge thrown down.
I bought the 4-volume Liturgy of the Hours the other day. Never prayed it before. Trying not to get bogged down, as Brent lamented. I'm going to try to stick with 5 placemarks. :-)
Peace brothers. Thanks as always for this wonderful podcast.
Adam
Thanks Adam!
Heh. Word of caution... Never, ever, ever let Mike Lee near your breviary! :-P
Congratulations on picking up your four volume set! That's a wonderful investment in your relationship with the Lord. The Divine Office is a wonderful, life-stabilizing form of prayer. I'm certain it will be profitable for you.
If you need some help in getting started with it, I would recommend downloading the free Sunday and Friday prayers from ebreviary.com. You could use them as "cheat sheets" as you learn to navigate your breviary.
Thanks again!
HEY NOW!! Brent, I saved you so much pain and confusion! :-P. You would still be trying to figure out the 10,000 bookmarks they had.
Adam, DON'T LISTEN TO BRENT - I never do....
anyway, if you need any *real* assistance drop me a line. Yes, it is possible to pray the Divine Office with only 5 ribbons :-). You will fall in love with praying with and through the Church. It is a gift!
lol... eBreviary all the way baby...
eBreviary & Kindle, FTW!!
